☔️ Make a claim: Metamask

Redefind | You need to prove ownership of your insured account to make a claim

Updated over a month ago

A) How to connect a Metamask wallet to Redefind (desktop)

Step 1: Log in to your Redefind portal, and navigate to the report theft page. After reading the 'Claim Summary page' Click on the 'prove ownership' button. This will bring up a Vezgo connection widget.

Step 2: Click on Metamask inside the Wallets section of the connection widget, and click ‘Connect account

Step 3: We recommend you select all of your accounts on this page, as it can save you time if you want to connect another account at a later date. Click 'Connect'

🤓 FYI

Vezgo is read-only and can never access your cryptoassets. The notice of 'suggest transactions to approve' in Metamask (middle image above) is unfortunately a generic message. Rest assured, Redefind and Vezgo can never access your cryptoassets and will never ask you to approve a transaction!

Step 4: Your account is now connected!

Once your account is connected to Redefind, you can identify your theft transaction from the list of transactions shown and add them to your basket.

Extra: Please feel free to remove this connection from your Metamask wallet if you wish (this will not remove the wallet from your Redefind portal). Click on your Metamask wallet -> 3 dot menu in top right (circled in image 1 below) -> 'Connected sites' -> 'Disconnect' (connect.vezgo.com is what Redefind uses to establish our connections) -> 'Disconnect all accounts'

B) How to connect a Metamask wallet to Redefind (mobile)

Please read our article on how to connect a wallet via WalletConnect to your Redefind Portal, here.

C) How to connect a Metamask wallet when logged into your Redefind account on a mobile

If you are logged in to your Redefind portal on your mobile, you will only be able to connect to a Metamask account which is on the same mobile device (not a Metamask desktop wallet).

To do this, follow these steps:

Step 1: Click '+ Prove ownership' button

Step 2: Select Metamask

Step 3: Click 'Or connect via WalletConnect' (ignore the red error message here)

Step 4: Click on 'Metamask'

Step 5: Click 'Try this alternate link'

Step 6: Step 5 will open your Metamask wallet installed on your device. Here, unlock your wallet by entering your password

Step 7: Click on the 'Connect' button which appears within the 'Connect Account' pop up

Step 8: Return to your Redefind portal

Step 9: Return to the first tab (the second tab here is empty)

Step 10: Connection made!

D) Some Metamask connection tips

Here are some important points regarding Metamask connections:

1) Network Compatibility:

If your Metamask is on the Ethereum network, connecting it to Redefind will establish a connection for this address on Ethereum only.

💡 Tip

To add the same address on another network (e.g. Polygon), you must change the network within Metamask and then make a new connection to your Redefind portal.

2) Separate Networks:

Connecting a wallet on one network (e.g., Ethereum) automatically covers the same address on all other EVM networks (e.g., Polygon).

3) We recommend removing the connection from Metamask straight away:

Please see the instructions for how to do this in Step 5 above (part A).

4) How to connect a different account within my Metamask:

Simply change the account to the account you wish to connect in your Metamask wallet (and on the blockchain network you want) and then repeat the new connection journey above again. If the app auto-connects you to an address you have already connected or a different address, see the below item to fix this:

5) Multiple Accounts/addresses in Metamask:

If you have multiple accounts within your Metamask, and you only granted permissions to one of the accounts during your initial connection to Redefind, this may prevent you from connecting additional accounts from your wallet. To resolve this, simply remove all connections to Vezgo from within Metamask (not via the Remove Connection button in your Redefind portal itself) and then reconnect through Vezgo, making sure you select the account(s) you wish to connect at this stage:

If you don't approve an account at this stage, you will have to repeat the process (step 5) if you later decide you want to connect this address to your Redefind account.
